USB UART Drivers for SmartFusion2 KickStart kit

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 running Windows 10.

Are the USB UART Drivers for SmartFusion2 KickStart kit, which I download from the Avnet website, compatible with Windows 10?

Thanks,

Mike

Re: USB UART Drivers for SmartFusion2 KickStart kit

Mike, I have not tried to run the utility on a Surface Pro, but I have run it under Windows 10 and have seen it run on a number of other Windows 10 laptops during SpeedWay training sessions.  Please report back if you are experiencing issues.  The driver is from FTDI, who makes the quad USB to serial converter.

Re: USB UART Drivers for SmartFusion2 KickStart kit

Here is some additional information for those who struggle to run the Windows "SmartFusion2 KickStart Board Tester" utility :

The demo program claims to operate on .NET framework version 4.0, however this forum describers why it sometimes fails to run: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13748055/could-not-load-type-system-runtime-compilerservices-exte...

If you have trouble, installing .NET Framework 4.5.2 often solves the problem. You may have to restart your SmartFusion2 Kickstart board if you attempted to start it with .NET 4.0

Also, for Windows 7 operating inside an Oracle VirtualBox VM:

To get the USB ports working

From this forum on the topic https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=45349

  1. Install the Oracle extension pack
  2. Fire up VirtualBox, but make sure the guest OS is shut down
  3. Navigate to Settings>Ports>USB> and check the box for Enable USB 2.0 (EHCI) Controller
  4. Plug in your USB device and add it to the USB Device Filters list
  5. If your host OS grabs the device first, just eject it from there and the guest OS will find it and mount it
