Windows utility port will not connect

Here is a problem Jan Anders, an FAE, had.

His 4 ports of the FlashPro5 showed up in his Device Manager.  But still the "SmartFusion2 KickStart Board Tester" utility would not automatically connect to the 3rd of the 4 ports.  And even when he selected that port, it would not connect.  How did he fix that?

Re: Windows utility port will not connect

Driver install/uninstall over several years had caused orphaned ports that interfered with the selection of the real port.  The solution was to use regedit to clear all reserved ports as per :

http://superuser.com/questions/408976/how-do-i-clean-up-com-ports-in-use

After this he un-installed and re-installed the FTDI drivers (that can be found on teh KickStart board page).

I did not do this myself, but just in case someone else out there runs into this problem, I post his solution.

Also, remember that if the KickStart utility fails to run, you may have to install .NET Framework 4.5.2. (and re-power your board)
